How to Create & Submit Merchant Promotions or Promotion Feed from our App?

Merchant promotions allow you to highlight special offers and discounts while purchasing from your store, helping shoppers decide where to buy. When you submit the promotions feed to Google, shoppers will see the discounts you offer, which makes your store stand out.

Like all other processes, creating a promotion feed from our app is easy and can be done in a few steps.

Please note that the promotions created from our app will be automatically submitted to the Google Merchant Center Next via Content API. It will take around 15-20 minutes to reflect in your merchant center, under the promotions section.

To create a merchant promotions feed, first, ensure the Merchant Promotions program is added in your Google Merchant Center Next. You can check it under your merchant center’s “Marketing” section.

In case, you have not added, you can go to add-ons under the settings button and click on Add.

Ensure all the products on which you want to apply the promotion, are approved and submitted to the merchant center.

Let’s get into the process of creating the promotions.

Navigate to the Promotions Feed tab in our app. It will show the below screen if you haven’t created any promotions yet.

Click on Add New Promotion which will open the page to enter the details of the promotion.

Let’s take a look at all the fields one by one.

  1. Select the country and the language for which you want to run the promotions. Please note you will have the option to choose the currency, country, and language in case you are submitting the feed for Shopify Markets.

2. Now, select the destinations where you want to show your promotions – Google Shopping Ads or Google Free Listings.

3. Choose the required promotion category. Google offers 4 types of promotions as follows:

  1. Amount off – Offer a monetary discount like: “Get $25 OFF” or “Shop for $200 & Get $25 OFF”
  2. Percent off – Offer a percentage discount, like: 15% OFF on False Nails
  3. Free gift – Offer a free gift, like: Buy a Mobile & Get a Power Bank Free
  4. Free shipping – Offer free shipping.

When you click on any one of the categories, further details will open.

4. Based on the promotion category, in the Promotion Type section, you can select the type of promotion that matches your chosen promotion category and apply it to your products.

5. Enter the promotion details on the basis of the type that you have selected – Ex: Discount Amount and the Minimum Purchase Amount, if applicable.

6. Next comes the part where you must choose if you wish to run the promotion for all products or specific products. In the case of specific products, make sure to map the promotion to the required products, using our bulk edit feature.

You can assign the promotion for specific products as shown here.

7. Decide whether to offer a coupon code or not. Ensure that your option resonates with the setup you have done in your Shopify Store.

8. Now choose when you want the promotion to be redeemable. It specifies the date and time of day when the sale starts or ends. Google allows creating promotions for a maximum of 183 days.

9. Enter a suitable promotion title and ensure to describe it completely and accurately. It must follow the editorial requirements closely.

Lastly, please note that you have the option to edit, remove, end, or archive your promotions created.

Points to keep in mind:

  • Once the promotion is created from the app, avoid making any changes in the Google Merchant Center Next. If you wish to edit the details, you can do it from the app itself. Making the changes in the merchant center could create conflict with the data.

  • Please note if you are offering Free Shipping for all orders, you should not submit a promotion in your merchant center. Instead, you only need to create Shipping Settings. Google will automatically show free shipping for eligible products in Google Shopping Results. You can submit a Free Shipping promotion if you offer Free Shipping for a specific occasion, like “Free Shipping on this Labor Day” under which the user needs to apply the “FREESHIP” discount code at checkout.

  • Kindly make a note that the minimum_purchase_quantity and minimum_purchase_amount cannot be used for the same promotion.

  • Please note that Google takes around 24 hours to review and approve or reject the promotion. Further, you will be notified in your email.
